The Salt Marsh is one of our area’s most prominent features, not to mention an essential resource. Most coastal creatures depend partially or even fully on the Salt Marsh for survival and repay those benefits extensively with the role they play. The Salt Marsh itself has a unique role not only as a nursery for many of the creatures that inhabit the coast is but also as a water filter vital for the functioning of the entire coastal ecosystem (a fascinating tale that is often overlooked). Learn from an expert how and why this particular environment is so important. Considered one of the most productive ecosystems on earth, the Salt Marsh is a place worth visiting and discovering while on Hilton Head Island.

A World Book Day event ticket buys you a seat at a table with a local, national, or international celebrity: authors, artists, athletes, media personalities, local heroes, and much more! There will be 19 tables under a beautiful tent. Tickets are all general admission and cost $150 each. There are 8 seats at each table. Two seats will be filled with a celebrity and his or her guest. Part of the fun will be finding out who YOUR celebrity will be because our fabulous celebrities will draw their table number for the evening.

Enjoy a delicious dinner and dance the night away to music by The Chiggers, winner of 2020’s Best Local Band Award! 2020 was also the year that Libraries for Kids, International won the local Chamber of Commerce award for Best Non-Profit. Winning that award was a tremendous honor, but the Pandemic made it harder than ever to raise funds, especially for a newly formed nonprofit. With a lot of hard work, and some wonderful, caring supporters, we persevered and in just 3 years created more than 3,000 libraries in rural areas of Kenya.
But there is much more to do! Kenya has over 6,753 rural schools and approximately 1.5 million children with little or no electricity or internet. Our goal is to supply all rural Kenyan schools with a library. Looking ahead we have a waiting list of countries needing help and are collaborating with other non-profits to expand into Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, and beyond.

Farmer’s Market in Bluffton SC
Every Thursday from 12:00 till 5:00 (or dusk) September through May and 10:00 am to 2:00 pm June through August.
Address: 68 Boundry Street, Bluffton, SC 29910, one block off of Calhoun Street at Martin Family Park
This weekly event is held on Boundry Street in historic Old Town Bluffton. You’ll find fresh vegetables, fruits, local honey, kettle corn, crab soup, baked goods, and flowers at this open-air market that started back in 2006. Between the fresh produce stands, you’ll find local artists and craftsmen showcasing their work and products. Make a day exploring the Farmer’s Market by visiting local stores and restaurants. We recommend eating outside at The Pearl Kitchen and Bar or The Cottage. Both places offer great food and are steps away from this open-air market.

September-May: Fridays from 10:00-11:30am.
$12 adults / $7 child (ages 4-12) / Not recommended for children under the age of 4.
