During the summer, avoid HWY 278 on the weekends late mornings and early afternoons. Many travelers come and go for their stay on Hilton Head Island on those days, and HYW 278 can look like a parking lot. Leave early or late for the best results. 2. If you plan on visiting Bluffton during high-season, call ahead for dinner reservations. Many restaurants have limited seating. 3. Bug spray! Yup, you’ll need it. Depending on the time of day and temperature, the gnats are going to want to meet you and your family. We recommend “No Natz” that you can find at most gas stations. 4. Stay hydrated. With plenty of outdoor activities and spending most of your time walking, make sure you drink plenty of water. Bluffton can be pretty humid during the summer months. 5.  Parking. If you can’t find a parking space on one of the main streets in downtown Bluffton, you’ll find a public parking lot (yes, it’s free) a block down from Calhoun Street as your heading towards the bluff from May River Road. 6. Picnic in the Park. One of the great ways to soak up everything Bluffton is picnicking in a park. Bluffton has plenty of parks with wide-open spaces for you and your family to enjoy the outdoors.
